Acknowledgments for “A Leafy Seadragon’s Tale”
Linda Susanne Moyer, has a Master of Education degree along with special certification in Reading Evaluation and Remediation. After working with her local school district, Linda continues to support the reading skills of the children in her community. She and I expanded the story and added a vocabulary challenge to round out the educational value for the young audience.
One of my goals in writing and illustrating a marine science book for children was to create a story that is true to the life and reproductive cycle of the leafy seadragon. So I asked J. Charles Delbeek, M.Sc.,who is the Curator of Aquarium Projects at the Steinhart Aquarium, California Academy of Sciences, and also an expert on the leafy seadragon, if he would fact check my story. Mr. Delbeek not only fact checked but also suggested additional information about leafy seadragons that I was able to incorporate into the book. Ultimately creating a story that I feel is both authentic and entertaining.
Special thanks to my young readers Hailey Moyer-Samarasinghe and Cooper Jackson Richey, along with Sarah Louise Moyer-McCoy, Tamara Richey, Cassie Gibson, Lynn Yialelis, Tina Louise Moyer, and Mark Seth Lender who gave me their valuable feedback as I developed the leafy seadragon story.
I am greatly appreciative of poet and silk artist Devorah Harris. Devorah has a background in book publishing at Harper & Row and at Houghton Mifflin. With her guidance I was able to refine the story.
Dale Edward Moyer, a fine artist and the graphic designer who has worked as an art director for Scholastic Inc. and as the designer of the Surface Design Journal, designed this book and patiently supported my efforts as I created the images.
I am truly grateful for all of their support and professional contributions.
